1. Professional qualification and experience:

1970-1976: Studies in Medicine and Psychology

1976: MD degree awarded at Karl-Franzens-University Graz, Austria

1979: Certificate in Public Health (Landessanitätsdirektion Steiermark)

1980: Partner in a GP-group practice in Graz-Jakomini, Austria

Special qualification in psychosocial medicine, psychosomatics, geriatrics and palliative care, in line with local population needs

Since 1988: Approved teaching practice in General Practice/Family Medicine

Since 1984: Involved in a group lecturing on General Practice and Family Medicine at the University of Graz (undergraduate level)

Since 1993: Lecturer at Graz University (postgraduate level), Medical Education for health professionals "Teaching the trainers" courses

Since 1994: Consultant on teaching practices for the Austrian Medical Association

1996-1997: International Course for Teachers of General Practice (Royal College of General Practitioners, London)

2000: Certificate in Medical Education, University of Surrey, UK

Since 1993: Board member of the "Osterreichische Krebshilfe Steiermark" (Austrian Cancer Relief Organization in Steiermark)

1997-2000: EU-Network on "Teaching Cancer Care in General Practice", Project Manager of the Austrian national project on "Inter-Professional Communication in the Homecare Team"

2003: September / October: consultancy on the Implementation of the Armenia Health Project

1997-2003. Peer review of training programmes for primary health care providers

1999-2002: Involvement with the World Organization of Family Doctors (Wonca) in WHO / Wonca collaborative projects as project coordinator. Joint WHO / Wonca publication issued in December 2002, entitled "TUFH - Towards Unity for Health"

1999-2004: The Guidebook Project: Improving Health Systems - The Contribution of Family Medicine. The Guidebook was first published in English by Wonca in March 2002 and is in the course of being translated into several major languages.

2005: Project: "A Global Strategy to Improve the Detection of Food Borne Diseases" work in progress.
