Qualified at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Subsequently completed the Master's degree in Family Medicine at the Medical University of South Africa and is a Member of the College of General Practice of the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa.
Commenced private general practice in 1972 and has been involved in continuing medical education programmes since 1980.
Currently President of the South African Society of Travel Medicine and Chairman of the KwaZuluâ Natal Branch of the South African Academy of Family Practice.
Specific interests include aviation and travel medicine; continuing medical education; osteoporosis.
Convened numerous congresses, including the 2nd World Rural Health Congress in 1997 and the 16th World Congress of Family Doctors, both in Durban.
Married to Jeanette, a remedial teacher and has two daughters - both teachers.
